The following grading syllabus is designed to guide the student through a continuous development from Gokyu to Ikkyu. In addition to the techniques that follow, the student is expected to present the following, at each grading:
• Katate dori tai-no-henko
• Morote dori kokyu ho
• Suwari waza kokyu dosa
The student is also expected to be able to demonstrate any techniques from previous grades.

GOKYU (YELLOW BELT)

• Mae/Ushiro ukemi
• Shikko
• Suwari waza shomenuchi ikkyo (omote/ura)
• Hanmi handachi shomenuchi kotegaeshi Shomenuchi ikkyo (omote/ura)
• Shomenuchi nikkyo (omote/ura)
• Katate dori shihonage (omote/ura)
• Kata dori ikkyo (omote/ura)
• Kosa dori kotegaeshi
• Katate dori kaitennage
Any two further techniques of student's choice.
• Ken suburi (1-7)
• Bokken - Happogiri (four directions)
• Jo suburi (1-5)
