The following grading syllabus is designed to guide the student through a continuous development from Gokyu to Ikkyu. In addition to the techniques that follow, the student is expected to present the following, at each grading:
• Katate dori tai-no-henko
• Morote dori kokyu ho
• Suwari waza kokyu dosa
The student is also expected to be able to demonstrate any techniques from previous grades.

1st Dan (BLACK BELT)

You must show a range of Omote and Ura in Tachi waza, Hanmi handachi waza and Suwariwaza in the techniques that you choose, to see the variety of your knowledge.

• Five each of Shihonage, Kotegaeshi and Iriminage.
• Three Kaitennage.
• Two Tenchinage.
• Five each of Ikkyo, Nikkyo, Sankyo & Yonkyo.
• A selection of Koshinage.

Kokyunage from at least two attackers.

• 7 Ken suburi
• 20 Jo suburi
• 13 Jo count Kata
• 31 Jo count Kata

Test time is between thirty to sixty minutes.
